16-12-1971 : 90000 படைவீரர்களோடு பாகிஸ்தான் இராணுவம் சரணடையும் ஒப்பந்தத்தில் கையெழுத்து இடுவது பாகிஸ்தான் லெப்டினன்ட் ஜெனரல் நியாஜி.
கையெழுத்து போடச் சொல்லி அருகில் அமர்ந்து இருப்பது நமது பாரத இராணுவ லெப்டினன்ட் ஜெனரல் ஜே.என்.அரோரா.
வலதுபுறம் நின்று கொண்டிருப்பவர் தான் முக்கிய கதாநாயகன்.

யூதரான இவர் இஸ்ரேல் உருவான பின்னரும் இஸ்ரேல் செல்லாமல் பாரதத்திலேயே வாழ்வேன்; மடிவேன் என்று வாழ்ந்து காட்டியவர். இவர் நமது பாரத இராணுவ கிழக்கு பிராந்திய தளபதி.

தலைமை தளபதி, மற்ற இராணுவ தளபதிகள் அனைவரும் ஜே.எப். ஆர். ஜேக்கப் தலைமையிலான கிழக்கு பிராந்திய இராணுவ படையினரை பங்களாதேஷின் வெளிப்பகுதியில் தாக்குதல்களை நடத்தக் கூறினார்கள்.
இவர் அதை புறக்கணித்து நேரடியாக தற்போதைய தலைநகரான டாக்காவை தாக்கினார். பாகிஸ்தான் நியாஜியை டாக்காவில் பார்த்து சரணடைகிறீர்களா இல்லை மொத்தமாக குண்டு போட்டு அழிக்கவா என்றே மிரட்டினார்.
கடைசியில் நியாஜி சரணடைய ஒத்துக் கொண்டார்.
அப்போது நியாஜி தலைமையில் 26000 பாகிஸ்தான் இராணுவ வீரர்கள். ஜேக்கப் தலைமையில் மூவாயிரம் வீரர்கள் மட்டுமே.
அந்த அளவிற்கு கிலியை ஏற்படுத்தினார். இதை நியாஜி பின்னர் விவரித்து கூறியபோது உலகிற்கு தெரிந்தது. ஜே. எப்.ஆர்.ஜேக்கப் பணி ஓய்வுக்கு பிறகு பாஜகவில் இணைந்து இராணுவ விவகாரங்களுக்கான ஆலோசகராக செயல்பட்டார்.
வாஜ்பாய் ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தபிறகு கவர்னர் ஆக நியமிக்கப்பட்டார். இந்த ஆண்டு ஜனவரியில் காலமானார்.
The valour of the Indian Armed Forces has never been in doubt, but an account by Sydney Schanberg, the Pulitzer winning American journalist as published by the New York Times post the Liberation War is a great tribute to the Army. This is what he wrote:
“I don’t like sitting around praising armies. I don’t like armies because armies mean wars. But this (Indian) army was something. They were great all the way. There never was a black mark…I lived with the officers and I walked, rode with the jawans-and they were all great. Sure, some of them were scared at first-they wouldn’t be human if they weren’t. But I never saw a man flinch because he was scared. There was tremendous spirit in the Indian Army and it did one good to experience it. I have seen our boys in Vietnam-and this army was different. Their arms and equipment aren’t as good-but what they had was used with effect and boy! could they improvise. I saw heavy recoilless guns carried on shoulders, big guns pushed across marshes like ox-carts, by jawans, villagers, officers, everybody was in it together and they were perfect gentlemen. I never saw them do a thing wrong not even when they saw just how bestial the enemy had been.”
