125th Anniversary Celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Tamilnadu

Temple town of Kumbakonam is gearing up to celebrate the 125thanniversary (1897-2022) of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the town. Four years after his historic erudition at Parliament of World Religions in 1893in Chicago, the Hindu monk visited Kumbakonam in February 1897.
He delivered a speech on ‘VedanthathinPani’ at Town Hall and visited instructional establishments throughout his three-day keep within the city.
To commemorate the go to of Swami Vivekananda to Kumbakonam, the Ramakrishna Math, Thanjavur, has joined hands with the establishments corresponding to Town Hall administration and colleges to organize events from February three to five.
It has been three years since, then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, after dedicating a host of passenger amenities in Kumbakonam also at the Thanjavur and Madurai Railway Stations through a video conference in 2017 , said a museum to commemorate the visit of Swami Vivekananda to this temple town on his return from Chicago World Parliament of Religions would be built at the Railway Station.
But no steps have been taken to fulfil the promise sofar. The Railway users’ association and the Swami Vivekanandar’s followers have urged the Railways to start the process to add attraction the age-old-railway station in the Tricky division. The station was inaugurated on 15th February 1877. Southern Railway introduced Rail traffic between Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai.
A meeting of Sri Ramakrishna-Vivekananda devotees and volunteers from Kumbakonam was held at the Native School on 31st December.
The celebrations are scheduled to start on February 3rd, 4th and 5th by Ramakrishna math, Thanjavur. During the one-year series of celebrations they discussed ways to conduct of various cultural, youth and teacher advancement, religious and community welfare activities.
They also decided to install a statue of Vivekananda at Kumbakonam and other places for which donations are invited. 28th annual convention of Swami Ramakrishna Parahamsa and mother Sarada Devi conducted at Kumbakonam for three days online, Swami Sathya Gnanantha Maharaj, president of TN Bhava Prachar Parishad, has appealed to the Railway ministry to begin the work forthwith. He also requested the Centre to include Kumbakonam in the notified heritage towns.
